Are We Asking For The Right Thing?

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts
rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest
upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
Psalm 33:20-22

We may not always be aware of how we attempt to manipulate, not only our conversations with God, but His plan. We pray, asking Him to fulfill our needs according to our perspective and plans. While our prayers need to be a reflection of our heart, an open communication with God, we also need to pause and reflect on what we are saying and asking; evaluating the motive behind our prayers. Are we attempting to fulfill the desires of our own flesh? Or are we setting aside our own feelings and needs and seeking God's answers to the situations we face? Our prayers are most effective, when our hearts are surrendered to God's authority and we are seeking His will. We are quick to ask Him to change the situation and even the hearts of others; but maybe the first thing we should be asking, is for Him to prepare and change us. It is easy to become so blind sighted by our problem, that we don't even see the answer when it comes.

If God doesn't seem to be giving you what you ask,
maybe he's giving you something else.
